I'm really bad in 'fandom'.

To be quite honest, I don't want to participate in talks about what a bad mother Molly Weasley is or is not, or fight over OTPs or pairings in general. I'm too lazy and tired to write long rants about how I think the fake feminism in Buffy is an insult to every woman or how Orli really is a man and not a girl (posted with lotsa pictures to prove my point).

I just want to read good fiction and maybe snark about bad fiction. Yeah. I like watching the movies or TV series and then have short discussions about them with my friends, preferably in private chats or face to face.

Being like totally involved and squee and whoo sounds too much like real work to me. I already have a job, I don't need my hobby to feel like that.

Yeah. I'll never be a BNF. But hey, why would I want to be?

Same here. Just too lazy to participate. I like to discuss with friends, but writing long posts feels too much like a chore. Besides, studying fills all my needs for serious, written analysis.

Let's not mention the fact that there should actually be a point in a long analytical post, and with my attention span.... Ooo! Shiny!

*wonders off to be lazy*

*Runs screaming from BNFness* I never want to be one either. Doctor Who fandom, with its pits of extremist flaming hell, taught me to just keep it cool most of the time. I only do meta if the source material is meta (and I don't mean "transparent preaching of writer's own views/issues") to begin with.

Yeah, somehow the whole 'being in fandom' seems to attract weirdoes who will be happy to slap you silly and call you names.

I can get that treatment elsewhere if I need it. :D

I dunno, it depends a *lot* on the fandom. If it consists mainly of intellectual and mature women like B7 does, it's damn great. Sure, there are some shitty personalities and clashes there sometimes and the fetish for zine-only Old Skool badfic, but con after con I've been just gobsmacked at how lovely most B7 fans are. But then I do hang out with the slashers;).

Here, here.

I sometimes like to read about people ranting about this and that, but I don't like to participate. I just don't care enough and if I do, then I rather talk with friends about it.

YUp. I could go on and on in a chat about a character (yes, I know you're now surprised and all), but to rant about my view and then fighting with those who have a different view is frankly boring.

Sometimes there are good essays about characters. I read them and then go and babble with a friend, so even there I'm not all yay about 'fandom'.

Yep. As someone who subscribes to [livejournal.com profile] daily_snitch, there are literally hundreds of essays I could read about HP every day. I just don't care. It sounds too much like work to keep up and I already have a job, too. Also, I'm not interested in explaining why I like to read about certain things and not others. Why would I need to justify myself to people I don't even know?

I used to be more involved in Lotrips but now, I'm just whaaatever.

I subscribe to teh snitch as well, and am always boggled by the amount of long rants and arguments people have. I need to like... work and sleep and stuff and maybe even not write, so where the hell would I find the time to be all active?

Explaining stuff and justifying yourself reminds of my old pet peeve about these very intelligent and intellectuel essays people used to write about why they read and write slash. You know, the whole participating in something that connects you to your fav show, the right to explore the universe through characters, the need to explore your own sexuality through the characters, a feminist reclaiming of woman power and yadda yadda.

Everyone was just so damn clever and no one simply said that 'I like slash. Therefore I read and write'.

Wordy McWord. There is such a thing as Too Much Analysis. Even for this over-analytical nitpicking Virgo;).
