Fic rant

Been browsing through archives, trying to find fic from the Wire (any Omar/McNulty anywhere? :P) and not finding any. But I did read quite a lot of stuff today.

Most of it bad. Lousy. Even a few hideous ones that made me want to toss my 'puter out of the window.

Stubled into the good old 'matchmaker' syndrome. From the Profiler. George and John lusting after each other. Grace, Rachel and Sam teaming up, trying to get them to admit their love.

Excuse me! Two psychologists and a coroner being stupid enough to mess up with people they call friends? The guys just letting them do that?

No matter how cute that kind of behavior may sound (if you're around 12), it doesn't work in the real world. Those three ladies would have been told that they're meddlesome whatevers and that's it. No smoochies for John and George.

Gods, people. Why the hell do you always have to make your female characters such twats?

I haven't gushed??? OMGs! I haven't! SHould go and gush right away!

:P

And Omar is such a perfect character! I mean... this butch guy in a black leather jacket and a gun, everyone fears him, and he's openly gay. Wuwly! I also want to marry Kima.

Would love to watch this series on DVD or on tv, with subtitles on ANY language. Since the mutha fucka this and yo that is quite beyond my grasp of english language.

I so love all the ways in which Omar kicks ass! It's hard to recall any character, who this versatile. He's one of the bad guys, but obviously he's also one of the heroes. He's really smart, yet hasn't risen above the streets. He's so cool and collected, but at the same time not afraid to show emotion, I loved who they had him break when he saw what was done to Brandon.

And yeah, subtitles would be nice. When Stringer and Avon talk to each other, I don't really understand much of it. Other than it can't be anything good. Also, Kheema kicks ass! She has to be the first lesbian police officer to get any screen time in an American TV show. It was about time! Not all homosexuals are men!

And Lester and that stripper girl were so cute. It's not clear what their relatiosnhip is one the second season, other than that they keep in touch regularly, but I'd like to think they were dating.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one all confused with the lingo... :D Was feeling a bit stupid having to rewind and listen again. And again. :D

I like the way the whole lesbian/gay thing isn't the main deal in the series. It was great when Kheema's colleague asked her if she would tell him about her relationship and she kinda shrugged the whole thing off. Also, Omar shows a side of gay that's usually so not there. The funny happy and caring. It's not just wild fucking (since isn't that the only way real macho men do it???). At the same time, Kheema and her girl are having real problems (love the way they're like any cop and wifey) and are not the usual happy and sweet lesbians who usually kiss on the cheek and hold hands.

Gah. Looks like I have an issue here....

And I adore Lester. Am a bit worried about what will happen next, am about in the middle of season 2, and was stunned when they killed D. Evil and unpredictable.

Will have to pimp this series to Dlasta. I bet she'll like it.

I think we get to thank David Simon for the gay/lesbian thing. Like in Homicide he makes it look so natural, like it's no big deal that some of us are straight and some are not. It's just the way of the world, and nothing to linger on, or make an issue of. I wish more people would be able to deal with it like that.

You've met Ziggy then? Oh, that poor boy. You want to shoot him just to put him out of his misery. I love the characters of Nick and Frank in that season, the way I loved D and Wallace in the first. They do some bad things, but that doesn't mean that doesn't mean that they are bad people. They are just in a position where they don't know what else to do, and their consciousness is giving them a hard time for it.

Yup. It's a good thing they're doing that on TV, since I fear it'll be a long time before a movie with realistic gay characters will be labled as anything else than 'the gay movie'.

Am really glad that the 'bad' guys here have actual motivations behind their badness. I despise drug dealers, but like it that they show that they do use the money to support their families and stuff. Can't just say they're bad 'cause they're bad.

LOL That reminds me of BoB where 'the Germans are evil'. Yeah. Right.
