fandom, my fandom

I've had lots of weird fandom thoughts lately. Here are a few of them:
1. Boredom while watching telly.
I rarely drop fandoms completely, but lately have dropped lots of shows I used to watch. I didn't manage to find the energy to finish SGA (and apparently I didn't miss much), haven't watched SPN, House makes me yawn, CSI was almost cool until not... It's like so many shows I've watched have turned blah, and I can't figure out why.
Of course it's also possible I've turned blah and am too self centered to notice... :D Carry on...
2. Writing.
So many silly bunnies, so little time. I still have an unfinished story idea from every single fandom I've ever read or wrote, and it's really annoying to try to navigate in the murky waters of 'creativity' (oh hai, I'm an obnoxious idiot!) when I kind of want to finish them all, and then have absolutely no interest in most of the stories and characters anymore.
But! A short list of stories I'm kind of hoping to finish soon (meaning; next ten years)
- a few American Idol crack fics
- thay da,m Babylon 5 story
- a few Giles/Xander fics, including my first genderfuck story
- NCIS undercover story (as if there aren't enough of these yet...)
- that sex pollen story for Batman and Gordon
- *cough* that Stormbreaker porn with no redeeming qualities.
Notice some fandoms are absent from my list. I'd really love to have the time and energy to finish a few HL stories and even maybe kinda revisit snarry, but... I'd have to clone myself.
*watches half the people around here unfriend me*
3. FPS, RPS, omg BANDOM??
No. Just...No. I mean... Fictional people are kinda easy, and so yeah, I've been suckered into American Idol and I think Simon Cowell is the best thing after lime flavored Coke Light, but.. I don't know.
I remember being so into popslash, and into LotRips, and now there's this huge area of fandom and I just can't connect with these people. Maybe it's because I need to find the 'characters', be they based on real people or not, likable, and most of these bands don't make music I listen and frankly, the guys seem totally sleazy.
Funny enough, I never found total attention hors like Lance Bass annoying. Some other guys I could mention... Hell yeah. SO am not going there. Yet.
4. Migrating with rest of the flock.
Not doing that. Thanks but no thanks. Living in my little cave here, sometimes peeking out, and so yeah y'all love Merlin and whatever and I say yay for you... But still not my thing.
I guess I don't see fandom and community like that. I read and watch stuff I like. I try to leave fb. I discuss with people I like. That's it. 'Being in fandom' isn't my thing like that (as you have heard me say over and over again).
5. Fail!
Am so not going to even start on this. Everything I write is fiction, and that's it. As long as I'm not writing about a 30 something white work class woman, it's imaginary. Fair trade fic and all that jazz.
6. Bitchy Rimau is bitchy.
Can we please stop people writing WIPs that never actually get finished? Or 'sagas' that are less than 1000 words long? I see 'stories' with huge author's notes that are like 3 times as long as the 'story' itself, and I want to cry. Feel free to call me elitist, but man! This is so not funny anymore.
No, I do not say drabble authors are stupid, but come on. A drabble is a drabble, a story is a story, and so forth. Be proud of your awesome drabble! Just don't pretend it's a huge ass fic. It's not.
7. Color me blind.
So yes, I have wonky eyes. That happens. Lately, it's been worse than ever, but that's personal and I'm not gonna whine about it here.
That's why I love interwebs : you can adjust the font size and actually read porn! Yay! Unless the idiot author/comm owner wants to be artsy fartsy and uses the good old pale gray or white on black or some weirdass color that'll make everything blur.
Keep it simple! I wanna read your fics, but if you make me read purple on green, it's not gonna happen.
8. I actually have no #8. Or if I had, it'd be a whine about various fandoms and fails and you've all heard this before, so why bother you? :D
Right now, I'm heading off to watch CSI NY. No new NCIS this week, which makes me sad. I've developed some weird Gibbs love, and I need my fix.
Oh well...

Date: 2009-03-12 06:21 pm (UTC)I hate whining about this, 'cause usually people just get it wrong. Like... what's wrong with drabbles or yeah right you wrote that overly long piece of garbage and now think you're a special snowflake... :D
Anyway... I just like seeing fics that tell a story and drabbles that give us a flash of something, and I don't get why you need to be all yay about your long OMGosh insanely long story when it's 452 words long. WIPs are another thing. One of the comms I'm following has so many WIPs it's useless reading them, 'cause I get all the different storylines confused.
*whines some more*
