Jul. 7th, 2008 11:21 pmI'm thinking about reading some of the mcshep_match fics, but am kind of wary because apparently there is some angsty angst with an unhappy ending there. Anyone care to let me know exactly which fic was the DO NOT WANT one?
*worried*
Also, dear diary, today I read some incredibly disgusting crap. Can we not do this again soon? Thnxbai. Damn, I thought my crap magnet worked better than this...

Date: 2008-07-08 08:30 pm (UTC)And I don't mind angst as long as there's a happy ending. Well, unless it's 'they all suffer for 99 pages, get beaten, raped, betrayed and then yay there's one page of happy bathing and the end'.
Short snippets with a sad or wistful ending are okay. Real long stories with the emotional roller coaster leading to a plunge and a crash make me too sad.

Date: 2008-07-09 06:15 pm (UTC)Angsty with disturbing ending:
TEAM AWAY: Dead Ringer, "By Whirlwind Scattered":
Summary: On the seventeenth day after the jumper crashed, Rodney realized that the man he was stranded with was not John Sheppard. (5,700 words, NC-17)
http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/36900.html
Angsty with mostly happy ending (Premise sad, ending as happy as it can get). I loved it though.:
TEAM AWAY: Eleventh hour, "Less to Say"
Summary: This place is kinda weird. Not life sucking aliens weird, but still kinda weird.
http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/37835.html
Angsty, with open ending (happy ending of a kind possible), Spoilers for "Unending":
TEAM AWAY: One for the road, "Future Imperfect"
Summary: Sometimes saying goodbye is the hardest thing to do.
http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/38439.html
Angsty with happy end:
TEAM AWAY: Clean slate, "No Place Like Home"
John guessed they knew what the Ancient marble did now. Knowing, unfortunately, did not seem to gain them any ground on the problem of how to get John back to his own universe.
http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/47995.html
Angsty, with canon character death. Hopeful ending.
TEAM HOME: Band of brothers, "The Greater Share of Honor"
Summary: "For he to-day that shed his blood with me/ Shall be my brother" --Henry V, Act IV, Scene III
http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/45588.html
Angsty, with gender identity issues. (Still worth a read though!)
TEAM AWAY: Skin deep, "You've Written Your Own Directions (And Whistled the Rules of Change)"
Summary: Rodney's main criteria when browsing personals is intelligence, or at least the appearance thereof. Correct spelling and grammar, that sort of thing. As it happens, this narrows down the field considerably.
http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/43881.html
Angsty and a bit sad, but with mostly hopeful ending. (I liked this story though.)
TEAM HOME: Smoke and mirrors, "Into This World Again"
Summary: Rodney returns home, and John finds things aren't the same.
http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/43367.html
Angsty, violence, non-graphic torture but with happy ending. (1/5 hurt, 3/5 comfort and adapting, 1/5 happy ending). Liked this story.
TEAM HOME: Eye for an eye, "Illumination"
Summary: He screamed as his vision was filled with the sharp metal syringe and the pastor shouted in his head as the pain hit, “An eye for an eye John Sheppard, an eye for an eye…”
http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/42593.html
Angst, and a bit violence. (Loved this story though, even though it might not be everyone's cup of tea.) [OCs death]
TEAM AWAY: Eye for an eye, "Blink"
Summary: I am going to tell you a story. About Dr. McKay and how he bought an eye from me, and how that one small act led to the strangest night in my entire life.
http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/42410.html
Angsty. Also, I found this story a bit disturbing. Good, but...
TEAM HOME: Drop in the ocean, "One of These Things Is Not Like the Others"
Summary: When the team is abducted on a routine mission, John is presented with more complications than anyone could have foreseen. Set during season three.
http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/41754.html
Angsty. But with mostly happy ending.
TEAM AWAY: Zero tolerance, "Never Going Home"
Summary: John believes in miracles, in last minute saves, in the impossible. He's lived all of them. He also believes in small, random things that kill people; in the end you don't see coming, in the impossible-in-a-bad-way.
http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/40102.html
Angsty, with mostly happy ending.
TEAM HOME: One for the road, "Tonight and the Rest of My Life"
Summary: He didn't need or want a tearful goodbye, but he wanted something, something that acknowledged their relationship—their friendship—and the fact that they might never see each other again.

Date: 2008-07-09 06:22 pm (UTC)TEAM AWAY: Pound of flesh, "Little By Little To the Truth; or a Narrative of the Atlantis Expedition
Summary: It's 1904 and Lady Elizabeth Weir, Dowager Countess Menlow and Head of the Atlantis Expedition, is the widow of an English noble; Colonel John Patrick Sheppard, US Army Reserve, is a Spanish-American War veteran who's also piloted airships and tested aeroplanes and motorcars, and Doctor Meredith R. McKay, smartest man in two galaxies, is the inventor of the first Patented Completely Portable Personal Computing Machine. And yet, things are strangely familiar.
-- > A bit angsty, but hopeful ending. Truly it was lovely. Loved this story.
http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/36203.html
TEAM AWAY: Weakest link, "All the Pharaoh’s Men"
Summary: “Shut up and walk,” the guard grunts hoarsely and Rodney’s glad he’s bound to the man before him or he would fall and land in the blistering hot sand face first.
-- > Non-graphic violence, a bit of angst, almost gen. But I loved Rodney here. Great charaterization. Happy ending.
http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/39213.html
TEAM Home: Ace in the hole, "Risk Assessment and Management (and Other Heart Math)"
Summary: Anticipating every single way something could go wrong was an impossibility--but then again, Rodney had done the impossible before.
-- > A bit more schmoopy than I usually like, but not too much. I really enjoyed this story.
