Okay, so I like to buy magazines, especially ones with pretty pictures of David Tennant. Like... Who wouldn't buy those shiny things with hot men in them?
Was at the local bookstore and went to see the magazine stand as usual and had to do a little (but hugely embarrassing) fangirlish squee dance when I saw that Starburst magazine had a Doctor Who special with David Tennant and John Simm on the cover.
Me: *happy dance happy dance*
People: OMG take that loony away!
Grabbed the magazine and almost rushed to the registers when I actually glanced at the price tag. £ 5.99. Yeah, reasonable. Checked what it costs on the other side of the pond, and it was $ 9.99. Yup, still sounds about right.
Then I looked at the local euro price tag slapped on the cover. Almost dropped the whole magazine. € 23.50.
Okay. *breathe* Okay.
Fucking soulless money grabbing bastards!!!1!1!
For those who have the luxury of ignoring people dealing with euros, let me just say that € 23.50 is actually £ 15.90 (and $ 31.60). I'm all for making money, but that's not making money! That's highway robbery! It's evil, stupid and do those idiots actually think anyone would be stupid enough to pay such a ridiculous amount of money for a sci-fi magazine?
Also, to put that in perspective, the cost for the magazine is about exactly one third of the amount of money I paid for my lovely bat'leth. Yeah, that huge Klingon sword made out of actual metal that weighs over 5 pounds. So... Twenty-three euros and fifty cents for a magazine? Not on your life! Not even with Tennant hotness! Well, if he'd been naked or they had special pics from the Doctor and Jack in bed photoshoot (hahaha in my dreams), then hell yeah...
But come on! Yeah, fangirls spend insane amounts of money on fandom junk, but this is just stupid!
After a moment of mocking laughter and growling, put the magazine back and continued shopping. Then when I came home, I went and ordered the magazine online. Bought a back issue with the one I saw at the store, and both magazines with shipping were still cheaper than the one I would have bought at the store.
Am now going to become a true hermit and shall only shop online again.
