Well well well.

Managed to actually do lots of things today.

Went to see the Da Vinci Code with a couple of insane ladies. It was mostly fun, but the whole sitting in tight jeans and actually needing to go to the loo at the end made me so nauseous I almost puked. Next time; sweatpants to the movies. Also, no drinking.

Do I have thoughts about the movie?

I actually liked the movie. Didn't have problems with most of the cast, even though Audrey Tautou was kinda whatever in her role.

Paul Bettany was nekkid, so yay. Also, his performance would have been slightly over the top if he'd spoken English, so the Latin thing was excellent! Sir Ian rocked. Almost peed my pants when Teabing told Langdon to go on his knees.

*naughty thoughts*

Alfred Molina and Jean Reno were excellent, even though they were kinda made for the roles, so it wasn't exactly difficult for them to act. Tom Hanks as Langdon worked for me too. He was so clearly bemused and reluctant while being amazed and thrilled. And not as Marty Stu as the character in the book.

Didn't think they wallowed in the violence; seeing Silas flagellate himself was very powerful, but was glad they just showed that once. The 'action packed' sequences weren't annoying either. Sometimes the whole out of focus filming just makes my head ache, but it was okay here.

Usually in documentaries, the whole flashback thing annoys me, but here it worked to be shown the history as well as told. Just actors babbling about Knights Templar and whatnot would have been boring. Also, the visualization of the painting of the Last Supper was excellent!

Some of the things they cut from the book were okay, and I for one was glad the ending was less happy happy family reunion and also less 'call me' -kinda instant hint of a romance thing.

But maybe that's just me.

Once again, Hans Zimmer did a really good job with the music, even though have to admit it was slightly overdramatic at the end. :D

Watching all the fighting over the Da Vinci Code phenomenon is still not making real sense. Even as a Wiccan, I can't really see the theories being disrespectful towards any god. In fact, the only thing this is criticizing is the Catholic church, and boy has the barb stung that institution. Have never been impressed by any misogynistic conservative institution, and it's actually intriguing to see what will happen next.

The whole panic over this 'heresy' only shows how vulnerable the church feels right now.

No matter what could be say about the book or the movie, I like the way Dan Brown's work has made people actually think. Conspiracies or not, there's a new interest in history and in interpreting history and that's excellent! History's always written by the winners.

Had fun with [livejournal.com profile] tvillingar and Big Mouse; discussed history and politics while eating pizza. Food and entertainment! What could be better?

Shopped for DVDs and chocolate later, and am now happily watching The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Yeah, it's silly and weird, but I like the music and the kid actors aren't annoying.

Mr. Tumnus is so flirting with Lucy. There was a leftover varg at the Stone Table sacrifice scene, and are those orcs? Also, Peter, you're riding a white Unicorn? You non hor you!

All the school work done, I'm ready to spend the rest of the evening kinda watching the second half of this movie again and reading crappy fic. Yay!
