It's a story of Harry's 7th year and the war against Voldemort. It's not a story about real depression nor will the snarry relationship be therapeutic in the traditional sense of one being a patient and one being a therapist! Harry does not need medication (as in potions) or a doctor. He just needs someone to talk to.
I personally do not think it would be possible for those two to form a healthy romantic relationship in a fic dealing with therapy.
And yes, book one is groundwork to the actual story. It's kind of slow and action free. There'll be plenty of action in latter parts!
