Am starting to post this story; one chapter every two days. Do read the intro and the warnings, otherwise I'll just mock you when you send me a hysterical fb telling me you found some plot thing appalling.

The story is split into 5 books, the first of which is called 'The Dungeons'.

Started to write this fic ages ago, so it's set in an universe where nothing canon beyond book 4 happened. Even though some of my betas encouraged me to use known canon history for characters that were shown in latter books, I have tried not to. Mixing various parts of canon and ignoring others summarily bug the hell out of me.

No. Haven't read OotP or HBP but I am vaguely aware of what happened. I prefer my own corner of the potterverse.

Don't be scared by the amount of pairings; no two pairing's the same, and Sirius/Remus is not explicit. I personally hate fics where several pairings have a happy first time and loads of sex and that will not happen here. Heh. Sorry.

The fic is set before, during and after war, so it will deal with depressing and sad themes as well as happiness and joy. Dark themes, including mention of rape, but no onscreen rape, nor will any of the main characters be raped. Later on, there will be deaths, both bad guys and good, and maybe even some much loved characters. Once again, none of the main characters dies, so this is not a death story.

If someone has problems reading a fic without knowing if your favorite character dies, feel free to ask.

This is a story. As in something opposite to PWPs. Therefore, the action doesn't happen in the first ten pages. I am a firm believer in 'start small and build'. So even if it takes a while forever for this to become NC-17, it will eventually be like that.

About feedback: all sorts of comments are appreciated. Try to be civil, though. Sending praise will not make me post any faster, so no need to grovel. The lack of feedback will not make me stop posting either.

Tales and legends hold magic, which may not be as powerful as the magic of Potions, but powerful nevertheless. Like any properly written tale -- unlike most of the essays my pea brained students write -- this one follows the definition of a 'story'. It has a beginning, a middle and an ending, plot and character development.

This particular one also has quite a lot of drama, angst -- silly teenage angst and real -- and romance. Not that I think that the last part is important in the big picture.

If you really like reading about a sophisticated character like me and a complete idiot like Potter, you should know by now that we don't exactly love each other. So do not expect us to shag like bunnies during the first paragraph or seventeen. I have standards. I would never shag a nauseating twerp like Potter the Mighty. For me to suffer his presence -- not to mention the ever so popular idea of shagging --, I would have to see something more in him than a foolish child celebrity.

Yes. I know. Boggles the mind, doesn't it?

This story begins by describing our lives during Potter's seventh year, so it will deal with important things like his Potions classes. And less important things like his idiotic quest to stick his wand into other peoples' business.

As everyone knows, the Great War came upon us that year and both Potter and I played a big part in that. I will not lie to you. There will be parts that may disturb you. War is never nice. People are wounded. Tortured. Killed. That is the reality of war, and our lives are not just a part of a great fairytale.

Even though Potter and I are the main interest of this story, the people in our lives will be described here as well. Potter's idiot friends. My colleagues. Students. Since they were a big part of what happened that year, the youngest son of the Weasley brood and young Malfoy will have a substantial part in the narration.

I myself do not look forward to reading some of their escapades. There are things one does not wish to know about one's students! Potter wants me to say something nice about his godfather, who will also have a part in the story. I choose not to. There are such things as impossibilities, and for me to say anything 'nice' about that mutt -- or anyone else really -- is one of them.

Unfortunately, due to the curiosity of the author (who has obviously no understanding of such things as discretion or confidentiality) this story will also invade my privacy. I should say on record that I do not condone such an action. I am a very private man.

However, since I have heard rumors that the appalling Skeeter woman is contemplating writing our tale, I have agreed to allow Rimau to publish this. At least she has got the details right. I am certain other people -- glares at everyone who thinks that this whole mess is cute -- would try to twist the things that happened.

So if you appreciate a slowly brewing potion that will heat into a burning concoction which will make you feel nice and warm afterwards without leaving a bitter taste in your mouth, you might want to read this fic. If you have the ridiculous notion that I would ever allow my name to be used in a two page long piece of utter rubbish with fabricated quotes like 'oh Potter you're so sexy', you should probably check in to St. Mungo's. They may even be able to cure your delusions.

The first time I read your Snape's introduction to the story I started quoting my favourite things but ended up quoting most of the text so there was no point. I love all of it, but I think that I love what Snape says about the war more than anything else.

I like my Snape's attitude towards war (and do I sound insane when I say that or what?). He's already lived through one and has no illusions. Will have to say something about Band of Brothers some day (when babbling about the fic), 'cause watching that made a huge difference in my mindset while writing the fic.

This sounds very interesting...I'm always looking for a good, long, well-developed, etc. story! Unfortunately, RL has dictated that I can't start the story until later-I just read the intro and thought that it had an interesting premise. You say you haven't read the last two books in the series? Wow...I couldn't imagine it. Your story will definitely be AU, and the canon-Nazis should leave it alone...I look forward to reading this-you've obviously been working on it for a loooong time.

The story will still be here when RL gives you time to read, I'm saving every part into my memories, and I think snape_potter does the same. And no, I haven't read the last 2 books. At first it was a combination of *meep it doesn't fit my fic* and *meep they're cruel to animals and kill dogs*. Now I'm over poor Sirius and just want to finish my fic before reading them.

Yup, it is definitely AU in that way, so am not worried about canon-Nazism. :D And yeah, have been working on this for a long time and it's way past time for me to start posting.

oh i've been looking here and there while copying the first book to one file (i'm emailing it to someone who can't access lj but only her email, i hope that's alright, i'm keeping all the information such as your original links etc.), and i doubt very much that it sucks. which makes it more frustrating that i do not have time to read as am leaving for a trip and cannot print out a zine like my heart desires. because this is prime zine material. on the bright side, at least i'll have something to soften the blech of returning from a vacation.
