Watched two movies last night,

Whoa, what a mistake to watch American Gangster. It wasn't a bad movie per se, but it was totally too long and wrongly paced. Crowe was awesome as usual, though his character didn't seem much of a challenge and Denzel was... Denzel. The characters' dynamics worked way too slowly and then suddenly BFF.

Also, you have a 3 hour movie where someone's an insane criminal and then after 2.5 hours of watching him kill people and be a total egomaniac you're supposed to start to see him as one of the good guys? Sorry. Didn't work.

:) Even the kinda slashiness or at least slashy potential didn't save the movie. Good grief, Ridley Scott! Your movies are sometimes a little soulless, but this was the worst I've seen.

*snore*

Equilibrium on the other hand... A low-ish budget movie with a story that wasn't that original. Good actors. Minimal emotional wangst even though it was all about the emotions. A good contrast between what you want to do and what you had to do.

See, here I am, trying to sound like I was watching it from some moralistic or maybe artistic point of view. When in the end, my head kept screaming GUN PORN and whoa momma Christian Bale looks hot. That boy has such an interesting face and intense gaze, so he fits these kinds of stories perfectly. Also, GUN PORN! Not only gun porn with guns, but gun porn with swords. WEAPONRY PORN!

*drools*

Not that I'm obsessed or anything...

In conclusion: Will most likely watch Equilibrium again. And again. And... Yeah. It was absolutely pornographic with some of the visual aspects, and concentrating solely on one character made it of course all about him.

Won't bother watching American Gangster again. Which is a pity since it had all the elements of a good movie, and yet... Blah.

It's a good thing I'm not an official movie reviewer. :)

I also didn't see much of anything very original in Equilibrium, but it sure did look good and Bale, Bean and Watson were perfectly cast for their roles. It's so wrong how hot emotionless!Bale is, isn't it? And then when the feelings inevitably begin to come through after all... Lovely. I also liked totallycrazy!Bale in American Psycho, but have no intentions of watching that film again. (I'm a wuss.)

Also, weaponry porn indeed. *nods*

Totally agree with both of you.:D
That weapon kata thing was beyond pretty.

Bale, Watson and Bean are all so deceptively subtle actors. And they can work even crap well. Which is why Bale does a lot of those intense, violent and maybe not so mentally sound characters, Bean is the sympathetic traitor/bad guy, and Watson is timid, innocent and almost always somehow a victim.:D

Hey, Shalna, comments on American Psycho the book vs. movie?
(Darling V, not your type of book, am I right?)

You want to watch this! Trust me!

Though the story was hardly original, it didn't really bug me, so yay. :D

I'm a bit ashamed by my Bale addiction, but hot damn he's gorgeous, especially in this movie. Haven't seen American Psycho yet... But will probably get it sooner than later.

Weaponry! Porny fights. OMG!

Yup, the cast was excellent, and I for one was glad to see Angus McFadyen in a role of a baddie! *hearts* Also! Sean Pertwee! I so adore him!

Haven't read/seen American Psycho yet, so at least watching the movie should be in the schedule soon.

Did I mention all the bunnies this movie brought? About the whole ideology in Batman about no guns and so forth... Okay, shutting up now...

Yes, one could say that those 3 were typecast, but they still managed to be subtle about it ;)

I haven't read American Psycho and I doubt I ever could - I'm too easily freaked out! I've tried reading some other Bret Easton Ellis (Glamorama, I think, it was set in the fashion world), but didn't finish that either.

You just like saying Pertwee.:D
(And he so is! Pert and wee!)

American Psycho the movie and the book are two completely different things on the same subject and oddly enough, I have to say that the movie is kinda better. Or least there is a point to it. Bret Easton Ellis has a tendency to write the same thing over and over again. =People are mean, selfish and horrible. And sometimes very stylish.
Tho, he does change the scenery on occasion. :D

Also, you have bats in your belfry. :P

Well, only Sean Bean of those is typecast in a way that's getting to be a running joke.
(The man soooo many exes and clearly needs the money.:)

Bale and Watson just seem to like certain type of roles.:D
Hors.

BEE has problems. It *shows*.:D (Kinda strange because I really like his way of writing. I just don't get it why he has to do the same thing over and over again without no...point? Something.)

Hmm.... I must admit that the whole psychotic Bale (and yes, nekkid and covered in blood) is about the only thing that interests me in this movie.

*cough*

And of course I'm all batty! All I can think of is accidental batsex!
