Jun. 8th, 2007 12:48 amHmmm....
I've been getting 'involved with fandom' these past few days with a few FB posts, some comments to strangers and comments to FL. It's made it clear that I'm not really comfortable with the idea of being a loud voice in the sea of voices or somehow actively taking part of discussions.
It's probably my need not to feel obliged to actually do anything fandom related (er... except to finish posting that WIP of mine). Having a conversation with a friend is one thing. Commenting here and there and everywhere with my thoughts that may well contradict others' seems like a huge chore.
Heh, I usually have great ideas or rants in mind and then forget to post them or then I come home all too tired with a headache and write something awfully stupid and then angst about it for ages.
Not that this means I won't appear somewhere with an opinion or five. I've just never really thought about this before, except in conversations about 'being in a fandom'. To me, being in a fandom means I've heard of it and read fic and maybe even seen some of the canon. To some it seems to be actually 'being' in the fandom; writing, chatting, posting semi-analytical whatnots and squeeing hard and loud around the message boards and comms.
I wonder if my reluctance to actually be involved more is also based on me being selfish. Fandom time is my time, and I want to enjoy it. Discussion is usually cool, but I prefer to keep it in my LJ (that includes my FL of course). All that big involvement feels like an obligation, and I have enough of those in real life thank you very much. :D
*runs off to cross post this everywhere*
