Am once again browsing through the web, trying to find stuff to read.

Yeah.

Due to my unfortunate OTP blindness, there weren't a gazillion Yuletide fics for me to feast upon. Read lot of challenge fics, some of it was even good, but I guess that fountain's been drained for me now.

So what does a girl do when such a thing happens? Goes to browse through old links of course.

The result was kinda annoying. I've been whining about scenes and 4K sagas here for ages, but I totally loathe the opposite as well.

Many authors had updated with part 500 of their continuing mega sagas where the characters had already solved a crime, fallen in love, defended their love against annoyed co-workers, family, gay bashers, southern baptists and almost lost each other, bought a house, moved in, decorated the place, had several unnecessary and dull sexual escapades, bought a dog, considered adopting a baby, had a tragedy in the family, almost lost the dog, gone shopping for clothes, solved another crime committed by the guy committing the first crime (revenge!) and made dinner for their now friendly co-workers, family, neighborhood gay bashers and so on.

I understand that people fall in love with their characters. Hell, happens to me all the time! But you have to know when to let go. When the original story is told, that's usually it. It's like movies. One sequel can be good. If you have lotsa, you end up making crap like the Scorpion King.

I know that a long tale isn't the same. Look at LotR. It's a long book/movie telling a story. Okay, so I could have read more (especially if it had resulted in a hobbit pile!), but I for one think Tolkien was smart to cut the basic book where it ends.

The point? If you love the characters, write them a new challenge, make them fall in love again. Stop wasting my time with the soap opera like crap!

Will now go and sit in the corner and sulk.
