Fic rant and stuff
Sep. 11th, 2004 03:31 pmAll righty then! After reading through an incredible amount of crappy fics, I'm going to make a little list of things that make me crazy!
- People who misspell names. For gods' sakes! It's not too hard to spell names correctly. I do understand there can be typos, but if there's a character whose name is constantly spelled Dumledore (and no, it wasn't a humorfic), I'm outta here. Also read a fic written in English by a Finnish teenager, who unfortunately used the Finnish translations of names. So it was weird to read how 'Harry leaned towards Kalkaros and whispered, "I love you, Severus!" ' Ick!
- Using the word 'bleat'. Can I just say that 'Captain Pellew bleated Horatio's name as he came' simply takes away the thrill.
- Giving the size of the fic only in the number of words. I mean wtf? What's wrong with x number of pages or Ks? I guess it looks better to say that the fic is 1000 words than that it's about a page and a half. It still bugs me! I go in search for a fic and then see it's 1000 words and my brains think it's actually something large and I get a page! Gah! Can't see people who have megafics promote their stuff like that. Would look stupid to be all 'Hey my fic has 333 198 words!'
- unnecessary sequels. Was all amazed to find a decent mpreg a while ago. That was then. Now they have a gazillion vignettes where the baby gets teeth or has a fever or the couple gives the baby to someone to care for him while they go lazeing under a tree and shag. Couldn't care less.
- The fact that there are too few fics from couples I'd like to read about! Anyone interested in Will/Bran or Arren/Sparrowhawk or Hornblower/Pellew or Dalziel/Pascoe? Well, apparently no one likes to write anything (or anything with actual plot) about them. Grr! Grr!

mace_m and dlasta. We only had an hour, but it was such a great hour! Giggled like total girls and once again amazed each other with the crappy fics we'd all managed to read.
I so totally *heart* those two! And all the other insane slashers I know!
Four and a half hours to laze around before I have to go to work. Then I have to laze around for 12 hours there. Hopefully I have some paperwork, so won't be completely bored.
