Jun. 7th, 2004 03:31 pmI'm planning on going to the gym today. It's the first time since the very embarrassing collapse, so I'm kind of blaah. Will have to see what happens.
I should probably try to find that damn election note so I can go and vote, but for some reason I'm all annoyed at the whole Euro-election thing. I have no idea why. It just seems stupid and pointless. Yes, I know it's important to vote, but my motivation is around zero right now.
The fact that I was never too happy with this kind of union of nations might have something to do with it... Or maybe I'm just so damn lazy.

Date: 2004-06-07 05:57 am (UTC)Ja joo. Miksi EU-kyynisimmät edustajat ovat joko läpikotaisin kommareita taikka natseja? Ei yhtään vihertäviä? Perkele.

Date: 2004-06-07 11:14 am (UTC)I, for one, agree with you. And Viccy. Canada threw open her doors to Asians back in mid '80s on the belief that they would come with their money and spend it on our products.
Many many people were against having such a massive influx of people coming into the country all at the same time. Lots of experts, business people and just average citizens tried to tell the government that the cultural and business upheaval would be tremendous. But no, the government was salivating at the thought of all that money.
So they came and it was as everyone BUT the government had known it would be. Instead of integrating with the rest of Canada, there was enough of them that they could form their own little communities off on their own. The money they spent was spent among themselves not with Canadian business.
They formed special interest groups so that instead of learning English, Canada had to spend money to learn their languages. They don't even keep their money here. They know enough about our tax laws to get the benefits of both our country and theirs.
So, instead of the millions of dollars our government thought they'd get from these people, they've probably had to pay out millions of dollars to accommodate them. And for what? Now we have all the crimes associated with this group of people. Yay.
The stupid thing is, instead of learning from this mistake, the government went on to do this several more times with several different ethnic groups. So now we have this thing the government likes to call multiculturalism. Which is just a big fancy word for everyone does what they want and to hell with trying to fit in.
Snowgrouse, Viccy, my apologies for rambling but this post comes at the time when Canada is gearing up for its big election. And in talking to people I've found something worse than voter apathy. I refer to it as voter ignorance.
Most of the people I talk to said well we don't like the current government, but we're going to vote for them anyway just the other guy doesn't get in. I find this ridiculous. If everyone who were planning to do that voted for who they actually wanted, we'd at least kick the idiots we have now out and replace them with new idiots. But instead the current idiots will probably win by a huge margin, but not for the right reason.
Sigh. Anyway.... Shutting up now!
